About the Standard Lease

Ontario's Standard Form of Lease (Form 2229E) must be used for most residential tenancy agreements entered into on or after March 1, 2021. It can't take away any right or responsibility under the Residential Tenancies Act, 2006. After the tenant signs, the landlord must give the tenant a copy of the signed agreement within 21 days — if not, the tenant can end the tenancy with 60 days' notice. Landlord and tenant may sign electronically if both agree.

Want the lease and e-signature done for you?

Tenant Trust drafts Ontario Standard Leases, handles e-signature, and files the signed copy on time — every time.
